This painting came from a cactus found on a hike in Santa Ynez Valley. I took a photo as the colors from this spring bloom were spectacular. It was a delight to create this painting. I named it 'Tender Mercies' because of the fragile pink flowers weaving their way through the spines.

 37th IAPS Juried Exhibition - 2020 Webshow

IAPS (International Association of Pastel Societies) http://www.iapspastel.org/ is where all pastelists connect, sharing fine art from all over the world, learning from the best through workshops, publications, and internet, promoting the pastel medium. Due to the current covid restrictions, the exhibitions have become web-based

For this exhibit, there were 3 jurors who looked at 1,830 paintings from 594 artists from 20 countries.  They are Ellen Eagle, Maria Marinoarino and Kurt Weiser . Thank you so much.  I also thank Joe Baker (Show Submit), as I was so suprised and delighted to receive an 'accepted' confirmation.

I can't even continue this post without expressly thanking my mentor Richard McKinley, President of IAPS, for acknowledging my painting  'River View Park', in a new program for artists who have been accepted in to the exhibition for the first time.

Here's the painting, and the link to the entire show. You'll see the beautiful paintings that merited the awards and the paintings that were accepted. Enjoy. http://www.iapspastel.org/exiaps_current.php#

PSWC Online Membership Show and Pastels USA 2020

With the news of Covid-19, the beginning of this year was life changing, to say the least. We have all had experiences personally, and heard from others in our community, as well as accessing information from all over the world.  Learning how to adapt to our ever changing environment, and having hope.

Breathing fresh air, getting outdoors with social distancing and mask protocol . It has been a wonderful relief to return to plein air painting.

The PSWC Membership Online Show at the beginning of this year is always a gathering of artists who show what pastel painting is all about. To be accepted is an honor. My painting accepted is 'Sedona Cactus Bloom'.

The PSWC Pastels USA 2020 is an international event. This year it is online due to the Covid-19 restrictions. This was my 3rd year acceptance into this event, and I went from Associate to Signature status, yay! I gratefully thank the jurors for both shows, and for giving me this opportunity. You can see the show here, and the award winners, absolutely stunning.  The painting that was accepted is 'Jalama Coreopsis'. Just click on this link to see the entire show and award winners: Pastels USA 2020  (you may see a re-direct notice for pastels-usa-2019, if so click on that link, it will take you there.)

PSWC 2019 Membership Online Show and Pastels USA 2019 Haggin Museum

Submitting your work to be juried for an exhibition can be uplifting, really great feedback -or- a chance to reflect on what is going on with your artist process and how can you make a better painting (if not accepted). I submitted some of my recent work to 3 juried exhibitions and was accepted into 2 of them, so I have both reflection and double yay!
What was a blessing is that the same painting I submitted (along with others) for both was chosen.  This year I painted a cactus, and was looking for something different, lots of light and shadow and the beauty of what could be called the mundane cactus paddle.

This painting can be seen online at PSWC's website, it is their 2019 Membership Online Show. You can check out all of the other beautiful pastel paintings, an outstanding group at  https://pswc.ws/membership-online-show-2019/ . Thank you Terri Ford, this years judge!

The Pastels USA 2019 Haggin Museum is PSWC's 33rd annual premier event. It's an international exhibition. This exhibit is now showing at the Haggin Museum, Stockton CA from May 26 to July 14, 2019. I understand this year there were hundreds of entries and only about 100 are accepted, so to be a part of this is an honor. There were 3 jurors, nationally known, and I'd like to say thank you! They are Debora Steward, W. Truman Hosner, and Gary Huber. Enjoy another beautiful collection of paintings by pastelists from all over.

Below is the painting I submitted.

Great news!

One of my recent paintings has been accepted into the Pastels USA 32nd Annual Open Exibition from August 16 - September 16, 2018. I am joined by many of my pastel artist friends. There were over 400 submissions and 97 were accepted. This beautiful exhibition is located at the Art Center Morro Bay, 835 Main St, Morro Bay, CA. Needless to say I am thrilled!

More Great News!

I've also recently joined the Pastel Society of America as an Associate Member. This is also a juried process, and it's wonderful to be a part of this stellar group of pastelists. Yay!

Hi Everyone!
I know, it's been AGES since I've posted, now I can pick up the thread and let you know what's new in my pastel painting. My apologies for taking so long!

I have retired from SBCC, have more time to paint and honestly, I could not be happier to hang out more with my pastels. Gallery Los Olivos is where you will find my latest paintings. Kris Buck and myself are exhibiting our work during the month of June. Kris and I have been searching for wildflowers all over the county.

Here are a few paintings I will be showing, I hope you can come up, enjoy the day and our exhibit, it's a wonderful Gallery showcasing many of our local Santa Barbara County Artists. You can view the website at http://www.gallerylosolivos.com/.
