PSWC 2019 Membership Online Show and Pastels USA 2019 Haggin Museum

Submitting your work to be juried for an exhibition can be uplifting, really great feedback -or- a chance to reflect on what is going on with your artist process and how can you make a better painting (if not accepted). I submitted some of my recent work to 3 juried exhibitions and was accepted into 2 of them, so I have both reflection and double yay!
What was a blessing is that the same painting I submitted (along with others) for both was chosen.  This year I painted a cactus, and was looking for something different, lots of light and shadow and the beauty of what could be called the mundane cactus paddle.

This painting can be seen online at PSWC's website, it is their 2019 Membership Online Show. You can check out all of the other beautiful pastel paintings, an outstanding group at  https://pswc.ws/membership-online-show-2019/ . Thank you Terri Ford, this years judge!

The Pastels USA 2019 Haggin Museum is PSWC's 33rd annual premier event. It's an international exhibition. This exhibit is now showing at the Haggin Museum, Stockton CA from May 26 to July 14, 2019. I understand this year there were hundreds of entries and only about 100 are accepted, so to be a part of this is an honor. There were 3 jurors, nationally known, and I'd like to say thank you! They are Debora Steward, W. Truman Hosner, and Gary Huber. Enjoy another beautiful collection of paintings by pastelists from all over.

Below is the painting I submitted.

Great news!

One of my recent paintings has been accepted into the Pastels USA 32nd Annual Open Exibition from August 16 - September 16, 2018. I am joined by many of my pastel artist friends. There were over 400 submissions and 97 were accepted. This beautiful exhibition is located at the Art Center Morro Bay, 835 Main St, Morro Bay, CA. Needless to say I am thrilled!

More Great News!

I've also recently joined the Pastel Society of America as an Associate Member. This is also a juried process, and it's wonderful to be a part of this stellar group of pastelists. Yay!

Hi Everyone!
I know, it's been AGES since I've posted, now I can pick up the thread and let you know what's new in my pastel painting. My apologies for taking so long!

I have retired from SBCC, have more time to paint and honestly, I could not be happier to hang out more with my pastels. Gallery Los Olivos is where you will find my latest paintings. Kris Buck and myself are exhibiting our work during the month of June. Kris and I have been searching for wildflowers all over the county.

Here are a few paintings I will be showing, I hope you can come up, enjoy the day and our exhibit, it's a wonderful Gallery showcasing many of our local Santa Barbara County Artists. You can view the website at http://www.gallerylosolivos.com/.

I'm really looking forward showing and sharing with you techniques using watercolor and pastel. I recently finished my yearly pastel workshop with my mentor Richard McKinley and am ready to paint with you. Below are some images from the workshop- it was hot, hot hot!

Here is what I selected out of all I saw....notice no sky

Welcome to my blog!

This is a great way to talk about my class this Fall, Combining Pastel and Watercolor to Enhance Your Painting Dynamics. This is the class to take if you already have some experience using pastels and want to take your experience to the next level. I will be posting here about using pastels with watercolor (psst- you can also use oil stain, more later..) on 'sanded' paper.  Pastel Society of America Hall of Fame Richard McKinley offers a pastel and oil workshop in Santa Barbara once a year. What I learn at these workshops allows me to grow in my own work and to share with you. You can see Richards work on his website.

Below are a few of my paintings recently on exhibit at Gallery Los Olivos, you may visit the gallery online at http://www.gallerylosolivos.com/ or stop by anytime daily from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm.
This November, you are invited to see my studio and paintings at the 10th Mesa Artists Studio Tour. You can find us Mesa Artists at Mesa Artists Studio Tour
